We had a great time on Lillian’s first camping trip. We went to the Bear’s den which is in the Blue Ridge mountains. It has an incredible view of the Shenandoah Vally and is right on the Appalachian trail. We met a “through hiker” who had started on July 1st in Maine and was hoping to finish the 2175 mile trail by Thanksgiving.
Lillian loves the outdoors and this trip was no exception. It was a beautiful night. There wasn’t a cloud in the sky, so we were able to enjoy the stars without the rain-fly. This remained the case until 1:30 AM when it began to rain heavily. Through it all Lillian remained happy. Of course she wasn’t the one who had to go dashing out in the mud and rain to attach the rain-fly. It was small conciliation that our friend Ken was doing the same for his tent.
Lilly slept great. She curled up between her parents and slept like a log (unlike her parents). It was worth it for Jen and I. Lilly is fun for snuggling and a well rested baby is worth the discomfort. Fun was had by all. Lots of hot dogs, smores, mud, rain and big scary spiders. Everything that a memorable camping trip requires.

Hey Jen, Good to hear from you! Thanks for the birthday wishes and for sending me your blog link. Nicklaus had a happy birthday in St. Louis watching the Cubs and Cardinals play. It wasn’t the “happiest” b-day because the Cubbies lost. But it was overall a grand time! Glad to see all is well with you and yours. Your daughter is adorable. I love those big eyes of hers.
Nicole
